i built kartay because i learn with flashcards myself, and there wasn't a straightforward app for it — anki, for example, is powerful but a lot to configure before you can actually start learning.

with kartay, you can create a large number of new cards very efficiently: you paste a prompt into whatever ai you already use, paste its answer back into kartay, and it turns that into checked, ready-to-learn cards.

it was important to me to keep it free and without forcing an account — you can use kartay fully without ever signing up. without an account, everything is stored locally in your browser, right on your device. an optional account only adds sync between devices, end-to-end encrypted.

learning itself runs on fsrs (free spaced repetition scheduler), the same family of algorithm anki uses to time reviews based on how well you actually remember each card.

beyond the basics, kartay also supports cloze deletions and image occlusion cards, reads cards aloud, works fully offline as an installable app, is available in 22 languages, and can import an existing anki deck directly, media and progress included.

i use kartay actively myself, throughout my own studies, and keep actively developing it further.
